How to use solar thermal energy

Solar is one of the fastest increasing alternative energy resources today. There are two primary forms in which energy from the sun is being resulting now: Solar photovoltaic (PV) and Solar thermal.

Solar PV uses the light energy from the sun to produce electricity while solar thermal uses the heat from the sunlight to generate heat energy or to produce electricity.

Solar energy can be converted to other kinds of energy in two ways. The photovoltaic method makes use of the suns light, which is captured through solar cells, to generate electricity.

The light of the sun creates a photovoltaic result on the electrons on the solar cell that creates a significant amount of voltage. On the other hand, the thermal method makes use of the heat of the sun to generate energy.

Solar Thermal Power systems, also identified as Concentrating Solar Power systems, use concentrated solar energy as a high temperature energy source to produce electricity using thermal route.

Solar thermal is rather an easy application of solar energy. The heat produced from solar energy is either directly used as in case of solar hot water heaters, or used for converting the water into steam, which is then used to drive turbines to produce electricity.

The principles of concentrating direct sunlight into useful thermal energy are very basic. The basic engineering technologies for converting thermal energy into electricity have been commercially established for over two decades.

Energy Star-qualified provides metal windows and doors and skylights that save you energy and money, amplify the comfort of your home improvement, and protect your valuable property from sun damage. They are also better for the environment since lowering your energy use means less air pollution from power plants.
